Finding children who had become disconnected from education and beginning a conversation about returning to school.

A journey to reconnect vulnerable children with education, support their return to school and help them build a future beyond the streets.
Discover the journey ↓VP Rwanda was founded in 2023 in Rwanda as a Community Benefit Company focused on empowering youth, promoting women’s rights and advancing integrity.
Through its Zero School Dropout Program, the organization worked with vulnerable children, including children who had lived on the streets for years, to help reconnect them with formal education.
The work went beyond enrolment: identifying children, engaging with them, creating a pathway back to school, providing essential equipment and following their educational journey.
30+ children were reached, 17 started school, and two are currently continuing primary education — one in P5 and one in P6.
Returning to school is a process. Each step matters — from first contact to the support that helps children remain connected to education.

School visits, learning moments and practical support captured along the journey.
A child returning to school also needs the practical conditions that make participation possible. VP Rwanda supported children with educational equipment and continued engagement through visits and follow-up.
These moments are part of the wider story: helping children not only enter the classroom, but feel equipped and supported as they continue learning.

One of the current students has taken on a school leadership role — a reminder of what can become possible when children have the opportunity to return to education.
School LeaderVP Rwanda aims to build on this experience by strengthening its Back to School Program and creating stronger pathways for vulnerable children to return to education, remain in school and develop the confidence and skills needed for their future.
Education can change the direction of a child’s life. Together, we can help more vulnerable children move from exclusion to education and from uncertainty to opportunity.
